Hog Butchering Day

1/17/2015

Last Saturday, we took a trip to Historic Brattonsville to watch hog butchering as it was done in the late 1700's to early 1800's.  The volunteers were dressed in clothing of the period.

Historic Brattonsville is a 775-acre Revolutionary War living history site.
This place is pretty large( More then 30 historic structures sit on 775 acres and chronicle the development of the region through the 1840s. We did not view the other structures, mainly just hung out around the butchering site. Here are some of the photos of the cooking, ladies carding yarn, making lye soap and inside the houses.

I would have loved to been at this historic event. I met Brian today in Charlotte while he was explaining cuts on a butt to the butcher. He gave me your website and hopefully I can make one of your events.
This event really got my attention because my dad follows most of the Revolutionary war re-enactments. He wrote a book called "A Passel of Hate" He sells quite a bit at Kings Mtn. due to it being about the events that took place before the battle. His name is Joe Epley. Anyway, it was great meeting Brian and hope to see you all in the future!
